If you are interested in delivering building science training, this webinar series will help you get started. Each webinar is two hours long, and they are sold as a series. These webinars are not required for the BPI Building Analyst certification.
#1: Home Performance Business Process
This webinar is intended to give you a birds-eye view of the home performance industry, and provide an overview of the different business models and the common hurdles faced when starting out, including barriers to success, and key ingredients for establishing a successful home performance business. These are the challenges that your students will face, and because the industry is still in its infancy, they can be significant. This webinar will give you the big picture perspective that will help you establish context for your classes.
#2: Optimizing the Classroom Experience
This webinar provides an overview of adult learning theory and some practical advice for teaching adult learners. Specifically, we will address helpful hints and strategic tools for the logistical components of teaching, as well as student learning styles and educational goals, encouraging participation, dealing with difficult dynamics in the classroom, and checking for understanding. This webinar will arm you with the tools needed to be effective in your classroom delivery.
#3: Optimizing the Field Experience
This webinar explores the challenges involved with teaching in the field and conveying information in an unpredictable and sometimes chaotic environment (i.e.: the real world). Through lesson plans, advanced preparation, and best practices, we will offer practical tools for effectively teaching / mentoring on the basics of energy auditing, and this will include testing procedures, and equipment usage in the field. This webinar will make you more effective in your field delivery.
#4: Panel of Experts: Technical Q & A
This session will give you an opportunity to interact with a panel of building science experts – who have experience as both trainers and practitioners. This panel will field any and all of your most technical questions while sharing valuable knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise. In preparation for this webinar, you should compile a list of questions, concerns, obstacles, and challenges you face as you begin the transition from trainee to trainer. This webinar will get your most technical questions answered, while exposing you to some of the challenges being faced by other instructors in the field.
#5: “Exit Interview:” Making the Transition from Trainee to Trainer
The final webinar in the Train-the-Trainer series is designed to test your knowledge of building science and to gauge the level of understanding necessary for delivering Building Analyst 1 instruction. During this “Exit Interview,” you will be asked strategic questions that get at the heart of the BA1 certification. You will be assessed on your technical savvy to determine how prepared you are to make the leap from trainee to trainer. This webinar will help you determine the content areas in which you may need to strengthen your knowledge to deliver the BA1 curriculum effectively.
